In recent years, there has been growing concern in the western US about the impact of shed hunters on wintering big game populations. As a result, Idaho Fish and Game has implemented new regulations to protect these animals. For those looking to buy their tags for this season, it's essential to plan ahead. Non-resident deer and elk tags will be available for purchase at regional fish and game offices and other license vendor locations throughout the state.

Roger Phillips, a spokesperson for Idaho Fish and Game, advises that people should have a backup plan in case their preferred hunting zone sells out. The agency has reported a significant spike in demand for these tags in recent years, with non-residents coming from all 50 states and 4 U.S. territories, as well as 61 other countries. Last year alone, Idaho Fish and Game sold a combined 22,000 deer and elk tags to non-resident hunters.

For those who may accidentally purchase the wrong tag, Phillips notes that refunds are available minus a processing fee. He also reminds hunters to always have their second or third choice in mind when buying a tag, and to ensure they understand exactly what tag they're purchasing.
